Shubman Gill, who has just been named as India's vice-captain for the coming T20 Asia Cup, gave fans a preview of his holidays through a series of pictures.
Posting the experience on Instagram, the 25-year-old wrote, "Never miss the chance to catch a sunset," along with photos of himself lounging on what appeared to be a private yacht. Gill was dressed in white pants and a navy-blue striped shirt, posing against a picturesque landscape of palm trees and rocky hills. While the specific location wasn't revealed, the photos indicated that he was vacationing overseas.
The post follows his return to India's T20I team. The opener's last game for the format was over one year ago, against Sri Lanka in Kandy. His comeback comes after he impressed fans as captain during the five-Test series against England, which ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
Gill's role in T20 cricket has long been questioned, yet his elevation as vice-captain under Suryakumar Yadav shows the selectors' belief in him. On the choice, chief selector Ajit Agarkar mentioned, "In T20 cricket (IPL) and Test cricket Gill is already on the verge of leading. He was the vice-captain the previous time he appeared in T20Is too.". We do notice leadership skills in him, and he proved his quality by going beyond expectations with the bat in England.
India's Asia Cup campaign begins on September 10 against the UAE, with Suryakumar leading the charge. The 34-year-old has undergone sports hernia surgery recently, and the selectors are hopeful that he will reach full fitness before the tournament.
