Facebook sees massive drop in teen usage in last 7 years

Chinese short-form video platform TikTok has rocketed in popularity and is now a top social media platform for teens among Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. Some 67 per cent of teens say they ever use TikTok, with 16 per cent of all teens saying they use it almost constantly. Google-owned YouTube tops the 2022 teen online landscape among the platforms, as it is used by 95 per cent of teens. TikTok is next on the list of platforms that were asked about in this survey (67 per cent), followed by Instagram and Snapchat, which are both used by about six in 10 teens.
Telegram CEO blames Apple for delay in major update release

In his Telegram channel, Durov said the upcoming update had been stuck in Apple's "review" for two weeks. "The only thing that we find discouraging is that we are often unable to distribute the new versions of Telegram due to the obscure 'review process' imposed on all mobile apps by the tech monopolies," Durov said. "For example, our upcoming update -- which is about to revolutionise how people express themselves in messaging -- has been stuck in Apple's 'review' for two weeks, without explanation or any feedback provided by Apple," he added.
LinkedIn rolls out new tools for better user engagement

The company revealed a 20 per cent increase year-on-year (YoY) among users adding visual content in their posts on the platform. Among the new tools, the company said users can now add a clickable link to images or videos."You can now encourage your followers to take further action on or off LinkedIn by simply adding a clickable link directly onto your images and videos to drive your audience to your website, an upcoming event, recent newsletter or other resources," the company said in a post.
Meta tests end-to-end encryption for individual chats on Messenger

"We're also starting a test of automatic end-to-end encrypted chat threads on Messenger and expanding other features," said the company. "As with end-to-end encrypted chats, secure storage means that we won't have access to your messages, unless you choose to report them to us," said Sara Su, Product Management Director, Messenger Trust.
Google Meet updated with new features after merging with Duo

The company said additional meeting features let users start an instant video call with their entire study group or connect with their colleagues at a recurring scheduled time.Before they join a meeting, they can change their background or apply visual effects. During the meeting, they will also be able to use in-meeting chat and captions for more ways to participate.
Krafton says will cooperate with Indian govt to resolve BGMI ban

"We have been directly running the service based on stringent data security standards and monitoring. Elon Musk teases his own new social media site X.com

X.com used to be the domain name of a startup Musk founded two decades back, which he later merged with financial services company PayPal. When asked has he thought about creating his own social platform if the Twitter deal doesn't come through, Musk replied: "X.com." After selling its electric vehicle company shares worth nearly $7 billion, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO said he would repurchase Tesla stock if the Twitter deal did not close.
Samsung to launch new foldable phones in India on Aug 16

Facebook making money via white supremacist groups: Report

A report by the Tech Transparency Project revealed that more than 80 white supremacist groups have a presence on Facebook, including some that Facebook itself has labelled as "dangerous organisations". "What's more, when our test user searched for the names of white supremacist groups on Facebook, the search results were often monetised with ads -- meaning Facebook is profiting off them," the non-profit organisation said in a statement late on Wednesday. The study found that ads appeared on 40 per cent of the queries for the white supremacist groups.
