At 332 mn users, Snapchat growing faster than Facebook, Twitter
While Facebook (now Meta) had reported its first loss in the number of DAUs last quarter, Twitter's monetizable DAUs grew only by 2 per cent in the US and 15 per cent globally. Snap (parent company of Snapchat) grew its revenue 38 per cent year-over-year to reach $1.06 billion for the quarter that ended March 31, 2022. "Our first quarter results reflect the underlying momentum in our business through a challenging operating environment," said Evan Spiegel, CEO.
Google Messages bug causes severe battery drain
According to 9To5Google, within the Google Messages app, there is an easy way to quickly snap a picture and immediately attach it to a message and send it to a friend. In the view for attaching images from your gallery, there is also a live feed from your camera to either take an immediate snapshot from that thumbnail view or you can expand it for a better view. In recent updates of the Google Messages app, a bug in the app occasionally leaves this camera feed running even when it is not on screen, including when Messages is in the background.

Amazon acquires Indian social commerce startup GlowRoad
In a statement, the company said the acquisition will help it meet the commitment to digitise 10 million local Indian businesses by 2025. "Amazon continues to explore new ways to digitise India and delight customers, micro- entrepreneurs and sellers and bringing GlowRoad onboard is a key step in this direction," a company spokesperson told IANS. The acquisition comes at a time when the social commerce industry in India is booming, with players like Flipkart's social commerce platform arm Shopsy and Meesho.
Google rolls out 'reject all' button for tracking cookies in Europe, UK
Anyone visiting Search and YouTube in Europe, while signed out or in Incognito Mode, will see a new cookie consent choice. "This update, which began rolling out earlier this month on YouTube, will provide you with equal 'Reject all' and 'Accept all' buttons on the first screen in your preferred language," Sammit Adhya, Product Manager, Privacy, Safety & Security, said in a statement late on Thursday.

The news streaming service will entirely shut down on April 30. "CNN+, the streaming service that was hyped as one of the most significant developments in the history of CNN, will shut down on April 30, just one month after it launched," the media outlet said late on Thursday.
Apple's MagSafe battery pack can now charge iPhones faster

India-first Google Search air quality feature now available in US
First rolled out in India last November, the feature allows users to search "air pollution near me" and related queries. According to TechCrunch, users can now search for queries like "air quality in Brooklyn" or "air quality in Boston" to get information for a location that is different from their current location. "We're always working on new ways to connect people with helpful information when they come to Google," a spokesperson from the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
Zoom announces new features including Gesture Recognition, Whiteboard
The company said that users can now easily share how they are feeling with others and encourage seamless engagement with Gesture Recognition, which allows for visual gestures, such as a raised hand, to automatically display a corresponding meeting reaction. This feature currently supports Raise Hand and Thumbs Up reactions and requires client version 5.10.3 or higher, and can be enabled at the account, group, or user level. This setting is disabled at the client level by default.
Instagram to tweak ranking system to boost original content
The social media platform will tweak its ranking algorithm to highlight original content more on its platform. "We've added new ways to tag and improved ranking: Product Tags, Enhanced Tags, Ranking for originality," Mosseri said in a tweet late on Wednesday.
