TikTok overtakes FB as world's most downloaded app
According to Nikkei Asia, a global survey of downloads in 2020 showed TikTok on top of the list of social media providers for the first time since the study was first conducted in 2018. The report said that TikTok's parent company ByteDance launched the international version of short-video platform in 2017, and has since overtaken Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.
Samsung ranks 4th in Android 5G smartphone market in Q2
Samsung had a market share of 16.5 percent in the April-June period after shipping 15.6 million units of 5G smartphones powered by the Android operating system, according to market researcher Strategy Analytics. China's Xiaomi led the market with a share of 25.7 percent after its shipments soared 452 percent on-year to 24.3 million units. Vivo was the runner-up with an 18.5 percent share followed by Oppo with a 17.9 percent share.
Musk-run SpaceX acquires satellite startup Swarm Technologies
Swarm raised $25 million in August 2018 and launched its flagship product called the Tile which is a small modem that can be embedded in various connectivity devices and linked to the satellite network. Swarm operates a constellation of 120 sandwich-sized satellites as well as a ground station network, reports TechCrunch.

FB makes data portability more seamless for billions of users
The company said that it has rebuilt its data portability tool from the ground up and now, it's easier for people to transfer a copy of their data from Facebook to other services via its Transfer Your Information (TYI) feature. These updates include user experience improvements, two new destinations (Photobucket and Google Calendar) and one new data type: Facebook Events.

The sale prize of the 1985 game broke the record set less than a month ago, when a never-opened copy of Super Mario 64 went for $1.56 million at auction, reports The New York Times. Rally bought the Super Mario Bros game for $140,000 last April. An anonymous buyer has now purchased it for $2 million.

New Samsung wireless earbuds to be cheaper than predecessor
Samsung is expected to unveil its new wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 2, at its online Unpacked event on Wednesday, along with new foldable smartphones. Market researcher Counterpoint Research said the new hearables product is predicted to come out with a cheaper price tag compared to the Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds that were released in January.
2021 to see around 9 mn foldable smartphones, Samsung to lead
By 2023, Counterpoint Research expects a 10 times growth in foldable smartphone shipments. Samsung will unveil its next-generation foldable smartphones at a virtual event on August 11. "Although the market for foldables is still niche, we expect 2021 shipments of Samsung foldable smartphones to grow significantly, driven by improved design and hardware, and competitive pricing," according to the report.
Will support AirPlay 2 in furture, clarifies Spotify
On Friday, a Spotify forum post about AirPlay 2 blew up, as it appeared that the company was delaying work on adding support to its service. In an update on Saturday, the music streaming platform claimed that it will support AirPlay 2 in the future, reported AppleInsider. In Saturday's forum post update, Spotify attempted to apologise for the confusion caused to its users.
