Julian Alvarez scored a breathtaking hat-trick to lead Atletico Madrid to a thrilling 3-2 home derby win against Rayo Vallecano.
Atletico looked to be defeated, which would have left Diego Simeone's team 12 points clear at the summit, when Alvarez's dramatic late heroics turned the game on its head.
The Argentine scored with an accurate finish in the 14th minute, only for Rayo to hit back before the break through Josep Chavarria, according to Xinhua. Alvaro Garcia later gave the visitors the advantage in the 76th minute, according to Xinhua.
Nevertheless, Alvarez restored the balance merely three minutes later after a mistake by Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla. He then wrapped up the win in the closing stages with a marvelous left-foot shot from outside the box.
On the other hand, Real Sociedad marked its first win of the season with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Mallorca courtesy of Mikel Oyarzabal's goal in the 48th minute.
Real Sociedad controlled the early play, making opportunities mostly down the left side. Barrene had a good chance but hooked his left-footed shot off target, and Aramburu blew a good opportunity to nod in a corner that seemed certain to find the net.
Mallorca were very poor going forward in the first half, with their only real attempt coming from Mateo Joseph, whose shot was easily saved by Remiro.
