US: Indian student shot dead at gas station in Texas

Police in Denton confirmed that the incident happened during an armed robbery at the gas station where he was working. The suspects had allegedly fired, leaving Chandrashekar critically injured.

A 28-year-old Hyderabad student, Pole Chandrashekar, was brutally shot to death in Denton, Texas, while working part-time at a gas station on Friday night. Chandrashekar, who was from L.B. Nagar, had traveled to the United States in 2023 to do a Master's course in Data Analytics at the University of North Texas, Dallas.

Born on April 4, 1997, Chandrashekar had done his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Hyderabad prior to going abroad. He had completed his master's half a year ago and was consistently on the lookout for a full-time job while maintaining a part-time job to sustain himself.

He had been reportedly employed as a Senior Data Analyst at GEICO on a part-time basis since August 2024. Previously, he worked with American Express in Chennai (2021–2023) and Hitachi Energy in Bengaluru (2020–2021).

Police in Denton confirmed that the incident happened during an armed robbery at the gas station where he was working. The suspects had allegedly fired, leaving Chandrashekar critically injured. Authorities are now making formalities to bring his body back to Hyderabad.

With sadness, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao visited the family of the victim and posted on X (formerly Twitter): “It is tragic that Chandra Shekhar Pole, a Dalit student from Nagar who completed BDS and went to America (Dallas) for higher studies, died in a shooting carried out by miscreants early morning. We, on behalf of BRS, demand that the Telangana government take initiative and make efforts to bring Chandra Shekhar’s mortal remains to his hometown as quickly as possible.”

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy too condoled the death, ensuring that the state government would provide all necessary help in bringing Chandrashekar's mortal remains home and stand with the bereaved family during this trying moment.
