The FBI has published new video recording the alleged gunman running away from the scene mere seconds after Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist, had been hit in the neck by one bullet.

"Sometime around 12 p.m. Mountain Time on September 10, 2025, the defendant ascended to a rooftop; after he shot and murdered Charlie Kirk, he leaped off and fled. He abandoned a gun and ammunition in the woods near the university," the FBI authenticated in a statement.

The bureau added, "Trace evidence collected from the rooftop scene included shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print. Anyone with information in this case should call the FBI at 1-800-FBI or visit fbi.gov/utahvalleyshooting."

In the video, the suspect is dressed in a long-sleeve black shirt, hat, sunglasses, and a backpack. At one point, the figure appears to limp briefly before resuming a faster pace.

At a press briefing on Friday, Utah's Governor pointed out that there is a "tremendous" volume of misinformation that is found online and cautioned against sharing it.

"I think Charlie said it best, that when things get bad, we should put our phones down and get some time with our families. Our enemies desire violence," he asserted, claiming that Russian and Chinese social media bots are spurring the proliferation of false news.

Kirk, 31, a well-known Republican, who has rallied young enthusiasm for the support of former President Donald Trump, was shot while addressing a large group of people at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Authorities indicated the following day that the gunman remains at large. "Several leads are being pursued, but no suspect is in custody," Utah law enforcement officials posted.

FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls also said, "We're doing everything we can to locate him, and we're not yet certain how far he has traveled."

The FBI labeled the attack as "targeted" and published photographs of a young man who is "the potential shooter." The photographs depict a man with a black baseball cap, dark glasses, and long-sleeved shirt having an American flag pattern, complemented by jeans. An award worth up to $100,000 has been posted for his arrest.

Authorities suspect the gunman shot a single bullet from the rooftop at a distance of up to 200 yards (180 meters) and hit Kirk in the neck. A high-powered bolt-action rifle was subsequently found in a nearby forest.
