An Indian citizen was brutally murdered in Dallas, US, after he was assaulted with a machete by his employee over a disagreement at a motel.
The victim, who was 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah from Karnataka, was allegedly attacked on Wednesday after a fight with employee Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37.
The incident started when Nagamallaiah told Cobos-Martinez not to use a faulty washing machine. According to reports, the accused lost his temper when Nagamallaiah told another worker to translate his order rather than address him himself.
Cobos-Martinez reportedly fetched a machete and stabbed Nagamallaiah repeatedly. The victim ran to escape, going through the parking area toward the front office of the motel, but was chased after.
While stabbing the victim, Nagamallaiah's wife and his 18-year-old son emerged from the front office to try and stop him but were pushed aside by the accused. Within seconds, Cobos-Martinez beheaded the victim and allegedly kicked the head.
An alarming video that has since gone viral captures the suspect transporting the head to a dumpster. Police apprehended him shortly thereafter, as he exited the area around the dumpster still clutching the machete and drenched in blood.
The Indian Consulate in Houston has condoled the death, terming the occurrence "tragic" and affirming that Nagamallaiah was "killed brutally" whilst working.
"We are in touch with the family and offering all possible assistance. The accused is in the custody of Dallas Police. We are following up on the matter closely," the Consulate posted on X.
Dallas authorities confirmed Cobos-Martinez is charged with capital murder. Records also show he has a past criminal record in Houston, with arrests for car theft and assault.
