BMW Group India has launched the all-new, second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe in the Indian market. Priced exclusively with a petrol variant, the sporty compact sedan comes in two forms—218i M Sport and 218i M Sport Pro—at ₹46.90 lakh and ₹48.90 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
Shared with its predecessor the UKL2 platform, the new model has a 2,670 mm wheelbase and 1,800 mm width, but the overall length is increased by 20 mm to 4,546 mm, while it is 25 mm higher than before at 1,445 mm.
These size adjustments help facilitate a spacious boot capacity of 430 litres, making the vehicle even more useful.
The new 2 Series Gran Coupe has a more aggressive design language. Major visual enhancements include adaptive LED headlights, a backlit kidney grille, and a redesigned M Sport bumper that provides the vehicle with a dynamic stance. The addition of 18-inch alloy wheels and black exterior trim details further embellish its performance-driven appearance, especially in the M Sport trim.
Within the cabin, BMW has adopted a minimalist and driver-focused design. A highlight is the joinless curved glass screen, which integrates a 10.7-inch infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit instrument. The two screens are powered by the BMW Operating System 9 (OS9), providing an even more intuitive and connected user experience.
The vehicle features dark mocha brown trim as a standard, although several levels of customization are possible. A panoramic sunroof features on both models, as well as some premium technologies including:
Wireless charging
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
360-degree surround-vision camera
Heads-up display with AR integration
Automatic parking support
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
BMW Digital Key for remote cabin pre-heating, boot access, and keyless entry.
Until now, the second-generation model comes only with a petrol engine. The engine resides in the hood of a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit that churns out 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of maximum torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, this propulsion sends power to the front wheels and gives the car a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h.
