Kawasaki has issued a worldwide recall for its Ninja ZX-6R motorcycle owing to an engine defect critical in nature and associated with the crankshaft. This recall applies to models of the 2024 (MY24) and 2025 (MY25) years of production.
The problem is said to be caused by manufacturing defects in the crankshaft that can lead to possible engine failure. Kawasaki has called on present owners of the models involved to cease riding their bikes immediately until the checks and repairs are carried out through the recall procedure.
The Ninja ZX-6R is also available in India, but Kawasaki India is yet to confirm if the local models fall under the recall. The company has announced that nearly 17,800 units in the American market have been affected and that it is reviewing similar action in other regions as well, including Europe and India.
This recall involves all ZX-6R models being sold in India, including the KRT Edition and the 40th Anniversary. Indian customers are currently waiting for an official announcement. In the meanwhile, it is highly recommended that owners stop using the bike and contact authorised dealerships for the latest developments.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R features a 636 cc inline-four DOHC engine, along with a 6-speed gearbox. The powertrain churns out a whopping 129 hp and 69 Nm of torque, making it one of the best power-packed middleweight supersport motorcycles in its segment.
The ZX-6R is available in India in a single trim, priced at ₹11.53 lakh (ex-showroom).
