The Maruti Suzuki WagonR remains one of India's best-selling hatchbacks. In August 2025, it reclaimed the number one position among hatchbacks, displacing the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which took the second spot.
Remarkably, the Maruti Suzuki Swift experienced a significant month-on-month slump, paving the way for the Baleno to move up the list. Below is a comprehensive analysis of the top-selling hatchbacks in August 2025.
The WagonR topped the chart with 14,552 units sold during August 2025. The Baleno was close behind to take the second spot with 12,549 units, surpassing the Swift by only 46 units from its July sales. The Swift took the third spot with 12,385 units, which was lower than the 14,190 units sold in July.
At fourth position, Maruti Suzuki Alto sold 5,520 units, a 35% decline year-on-year from the 8,546 units it sold in August of 2024. While Maruti Suzuki took all top four spots, Tata Motors broke the trend with the Tata Tiago, which sold 5,250 units to claim fifth position.
The Toyota Glanza took sixth place with 5,102 units, followed by the Tata Altroz at 3,959 units and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios at 3,908 units. The Hyundai i20 took ninth position at 3,634 units, while the Maruti Suzuki Ignis was in tenth place, selling 2,097 units in August 2025.
