‘Bigg Boss 19’: Reimagined as a Tumultuous High School Experience

This year of Bigg Boss exceeds the standard reality show formula, with a blend of sheer melodrama, outrageous brawls, and girl-next-door moments.

The 2006 chart-topper "High School Never Ends" by Bowling For Soup aptly describes the atmosphere in Bigg Boss 19, where the house is filled with characters right out of school—there are strict disciplinarians and hardworking class monitors and then the "it couple," backbenchers, and the good ol' "mean girls.

This year of Bigg Boss exceeds the standard reality show formula, with a blend of sheer melodrama, outrageous brawls, and girl-next-door moments.

Bigg Boss 19's school would surely have Kunickaa Sadanand as the principal. With her sternly strict attitude, she would be mistaken for Miss Agatha Trunchbull from Roald Dahl's classic "Matilda.

Whether it's choosing what to have for dinner, coordinating activity at home, or choosing which contestant to tackle with her acid tongue, Kunickaa seems to be able to do it all with effortless ease.

And then there's Tanya Mittal and Amaal Mallik, who go from friends to the season's "it" couple, certain that they'll stay together even after the show—just like Julia Stiles' Kat and Heath Ledger's Patrick in 10 Things I Hate About You, who begin as high school opposites but end up falling in love.

'Third Wheeler' Neelam Giri is the reserved best friend, more often than not following the "it" couple. Though frequently found with Tanya, she becomes invisible when alone.

Awez Darbar is the class bunker—always there but never seen in class. Though he's on Salman Khan's show, his presence goes unnoticed.

The budding relationship between Ashnoor Kaur and Abhishek Bajaj is the talk of town. Though they claim it's friendship, they are like the school's clandestine couple, biding time before they can share their connection with fellow students—just like Troy and Gabriella from High School Musical (2006), who meet secretly before announcing their relationship to the rest of their peers.

Bigg Boss 19 school could not have been complete without its "Mean Girls." Nehal Chudasama and Farhana Bhatt, the manipulative and backstabbing duo, are a perfect fit for the characters of Regina George and Gretchen Wieners.

And of course, there's the quiet class topper. Gaurav Khanna ticks all the correct boxes. An award-winning multiple times, he eschews fights and only replies when asked on "Weekend Ka Vaar" episodes and gets a seat on the front bench.

Next is the class' resident flirtatious bad boy, Baseer Ali. Similar to Jesse Metcalfe's John Tucker in John Tucker Must Die (2006), Baseer is the consummate flirt, always charming his way through Farrhana and Nehal.

For those who'd eat their tiffin in the morning, that spot is taken by Shehbaz Badesha, who has frequently talked about his passion for food. Even fellow housemate Amaal Mallik remembered how Shehbaz finished his eggs.

No school would be complete without backbenchers.

Zeishan Quadri is the guy who doesn't study throughout the year but does an all-nighter when exams are around and manages to pass with good marks. Likewise, in the series, his quick thinking and sense of timing make him popular, and his quick wit is his best quality.

Praneet More and Mridul Tiwari are the playboy, innocent pair of contestants, injecting laughter and charisma in equal proportions into the house.
