Actor Chitrangda Singh has confirmed that Salman Khan held good a promise he made years back—by finally joining hands with her for the forthcoming film Battle of Galwan.
The film, to be directed by Shootout at Lokhandwala director Apoorva Lakhia, dramatizes the 2020 Galwan Valley standoff between Indian and Chinese soldiers.
This is the first screen pairing of Salman and Chitrangda, who has also worked in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Yeh Saali Zindagi, and Desi Boyz.
Describing her experience on Friday, Chitrangda remembered how Khan and she had once been paired in a different film that never happened.
"Feeling really special to be working for Galwan. There was a remake of a Marathi project a few years back where I was to work with Khan and was being directed by Mahesh Manjrekar," she mentioned.
"Alas, the film never went on floors. I still recall Mr Khan saying, 'There is always a next time to work together.' After all these years, like he says, 'Ek baar maine commitment kar di, toh main apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta,' and as good as his word, he kept that commitment," the 49-year-old actor said.
Chitrangda also thanked director Apoorva Lakhia for picking her for such a major role.
"He could've cast any of the major stars, but he believed in my work. I really value his faith in me and I am proud to be a part of a story as important and strong as the Battle of Galwan," she said.
Salman Khan formally announced the project last week on his social media handles.
Battle of Galwan, according to the production house, will bring to the screen one of the most fierce encounters in contemporary Indian military history—fought at more than 15,000 feet above sea level in Ladakh without a single shot being fired. The film is expected to showcase the courage and strength of Indian troops in a battle that has become a symbol of national grit.
The 2020 Galwan clash saw 20 Indian Army personnel sacrificing their lives, marking the deadliest face-off between India and China in decades.
