Jitendra Kumar Joins 'Mirzapur' Film, Replacing Vikrant Massey; Ravi Kishan Also Onboard

First reported by Dainik Bhaskar and later officially confirmed, the news has created a lot of buzz in the entertainment industry.

In a first for Indian digital content, popular crime-thriller web series Mirzapur is now in the process of being converted into a feature-length film — something never seen before in Indian OTT storytelling.

First reported by Dainik Bhaskar and later officially confirmed, the news has created a lot of buzz in the entertainment industry.

Initially played by Ali Fazal and Vikrant Massey's Guddu and Bablu Pandit, the show developed cult status due to its raw storyline and power-packed performances. Although it was initially anticipated that both lead actors would reprise their roles for the film adaptation, sources now confirm that Vikrant Massey will not be featured in the project.

As per insider news, the producers have brought about a huge casting tweak. Jitendra Kumar — who came into the limelight for playing Sachiv Ji in Panchayat and is popularly referred to as the "Shah Rukh Khan of OTT" — will be essaying Bablu Pandit's role. Vikrant Massey has supposedly left the film because of pre-existing commitments, one of which is an A-listed biopic on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. This conflict of schedules pushed the production unit to hire Jitendra Kumar, whose increasing popularity on the web made him the favorite to play the role.

An official statement announcing this shift is to come forth imminently.

The new movie will be filmed on location to a large degree in order to retain the raw and natural taste of the series. Principal locations are Mumbai and Varanasi, with other sequences staged on Rajasthan — possibly among the picturesque deserts of Jodhpur or Jaisalmer.

So far, the female protagonist has not been decided upon. Rumor has it that Sonam Bajwa and Sonal Chauhan are being strongly considered. Although Chauhan's comeback would be a return, the producers are considering both actresses deeply before deciding.

With some initial scheduling issues because of Ali Fazal's busy schedule, the production has now booked his dates. Shooting is going to start between August and September, first in Mumbai and then in Varanasi and Rajasthan.

Fans can expect to see a number of their best-loved characters return. Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi, and Ravi Kishan will all be back. Ravi Kishan's character is rumored to have an important role in taking the story further and adding new layers to the plot.

While the show will make returns on characters and storylines from season one, it guarantees a revamped storyline, filled with sensational plot turns, high-stakes action, and realistic fight scenes. The team has no plans to water down the adult content that Mirzapur has become associated with. Just like the massive popularity of movies such as Animal, the target is to bring in an equal number of adult viewers eager for high-energy drama.

Director Gurmeet Singh, who directed the first web series, will be in charge of the film to ensure tone and narrative consistency. The screenplay is being written by Puneet Krishna, the first writer of Mirzapur. Rumors had circulated regarding a disagreement between Krishna and Excel Entertainment and rumors of him moving on to a Netflix project, but he is now working on the film version with complete dedication.

Of course, fans are eager to know how the movie will be different from the web series. Although the movie will go back to existing events and characters of Season 1, the narrative will be presented in a new way with a cinematic perspective. The producers assure action-packed sequences and intense drama that is made specifically to attract movie watchers and OTT enthusiasts alike.

Casting for secondary roles continues, with Gurmeet Singh actively on the lookout for fresh faces to bring in some vigour to the movie. The team is attempting to balance established players with talented newcomers to get it just right.

With pre-production already underway, set design and location preparation, Mirzapur: The Film is likely to go into principal photography in mid-to-late August. The movie will translate the dark world of Mirzapur from binge-watching screens into theatrical spectacle — a cinematic breakthrough for a franchise that has already revolutionized digital entertainment in India.
