Rajinikanth reached a historic milestone on Wednesday, reaching 50 years in the movie business, with praise coming from his fans, peers, and political leaders, including members of his own party and fellow actor-politician Kamal Haasan.
The party coincides with the release of his much-awaited film Coolie on Thursday. Haasan wished his friend on X, stating, "Felicitating half a century of cinematic excellence, my dear friend @rajinikanth completes 50 glorious years in cinema today. I celebrate our Super Star with love and admiration, and wish #Coolie resounding global success worthy of this golden jubilee," posting a nostalgic black-and-white photo and a recent one of the duo.
Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has directed Vikram, has a great ensemble cast featuring Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Haasan's daughter Shruti in Coolie.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also offered his congratulations, saying he had seen an early screening of Coolie and said it was a "power-packed mass entertainer" bound to capture people's hearts. Opposition Leader and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami also praised Rajinikanth's half-century-long career, addressing him as "brother Rajinikanth" and hailing his unique style and sustained popularity.
Followers all over social media overflowed timelines with appreciation, honoring his rags-to-riches rise from being a Bengaluru bus conductor to a king of Tamil cinema as its 'Superstar.' Shivaji Rao Gaekwad was born, but it was the great K. Balachander who spotted him and, renaming him Rajinikanth, launched him in the classic 1975 film Apoorva Raagangal. First establishing himself as a villain, he went on to become one of India's most beloved heroes, wielding huge fan bases and record-breaking box-office openings.
