Hollywood star Tom Holland is preparing to star in Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated movie The Odyssey, and he just can't stop singing the film's praises. In Holland's words, the screenplay is unlike anything he has ever read.
Sharing the screen with him is an ensemble of A-list stars, including Matt Damon, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026.
“The script is the best script I’ve ever read,” the “Spider-Man” actor told Agence France-Presse.
Asked about his experience of working with Nolan, the actor added, “He knows what he wants… but it is not an environment where you can’t pitch ideas or build characters in certain ways.”
In the epic poem, Holland fills the shoes of Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. Nolan's movie is an adaptation of Homer's ageless Greek masterpiece The Odyssey, a tale that follows Odysseus' dangerous return home from the Trojan War, having encountered divine challenges and mythological creatures along the way.
Though this is Nolan's interpretation of the ancient epic, the tale has appeared in many forms before. One notable example is the 1954 Mario Camerini film Ulysses, which featured Kirk Douglas in the title role. Homer's poem was also an inspiration to the Coen Brothers for their 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?
In addition to The Odyssey, Holland will also lead another big release next year—Spider-Man: Brand New Day, hitting theaters on July 31, 2026.
