A whopping 25 years since it revolutionized Indian television, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is all set to return—this time with a sequel that combines nostalgia with a new spin.
To mark the silver jubilee of the iconic show, producer Ekta Kapoor has unveiled Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, with original favorite cast members Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay returning to play Tulsi and Mihir Virani.
The new season will premiere on Tuesday, July 29 at 10:30 PM on Star Plus, and will be streaming live on JioCinema as well, making the story accessible to an entirely new generation of audiences who watch on digital platforms.
But this reboot is not just a remake—it's a celebration of collective memories and a reimagining of the classic Indian family saga.
In a teaser posted on Star Plus' official Instagram account, the action begins not at the iconic Virani house, but within a modern-day restaurant. A family reminisces about their favorite memories of the classic show.
The action then shifts to an idyllic shot of Tulsi watering a tulsi plant—a shot full of symbolic significance. Breaking the fourth wall, she slowly unveils the show's return, gracefully bridging the past and the present.
The caption line: "Ek nayi roshni ke saath phir se likhi ja rahi hai Tulsi ki kahaani…" A poetic reminder that, even if the characters remain the same, their lives are beginning a new era.
Although the sequel will maintain the same emotional core and cultural values that defined its original, Ekta Kapoor has intimated a newer tone more suited to today's audience—particularly the younger generation. The plot will explore shifting family dynamics while still focusing on themes of love, grit, and tradition.
The fresh cast brings a new set of actors—Rohit Suchanti, Shagun Sharma, Aman Gandhi, Tanisha Mehta, Prachi Singh, and Ankit Bhatia—each contributing new energies and generational conflicts to the original Virani family.
Behind the scenes, the reboot has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail. From re-recording the iconic title track at Vasai studios to unveiling Smriti Irani’s new-age look as Tulsi, every element has been carefully curated to balance legacy with evolution.
Several original cast members are also returning, including Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, Shakti Anand, Ketaki Dave, and Ritu Seth—reaffirming the show’s intergenerational authenticity and emotional depth.
Originally scheduled for a July 3 release—the same day the series debuted on the air in 2000—the preview was delayed by last-minute production and creative decisions. However, fans greeted its debut with palpable anticipation and nostalgia.
For those who missed the first saga, there is some good news: every 1,500+ episode of the original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, for 38 seasons, is up on JioCinema (previously JioHotstar). Tracing the complex lives of the Virani clan, the show remains very close to Indian television viewers' hearts—two and a half decades later.
