Actor Mouni Roy has sparked discussion online after a video surfaced showing her asking paparazzi to stop filming her while she was leaving an outing with friends in Mumbai.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, comes just days after actor Zareen Khan criticised paparazzi for allegedly asking her to change her outfit in front of them, bringing renewed attention to the debate over celebrities' privacy.
According to the viral clip, Mouni was heading towards her car after meeting friends when photographers surrounded the vehicle and began taking pictures from close range.
Seated inside the car, the actor appeared visibly uneasy as the cameras continued clicking. After initially remaining quiet, she eventually reacted by pointing her finger towards the photographers and saying, "Band karo." Despite her request, the filming continued.
Moments before her car pulled away, Mouni again said, "Band karo," reiterating that she wanted the photographers to stop recording. During the exchange, some members of the paparazzi could be heard asking others to respect her wishes, saying, "Photos mat lo, woh mana kar rahi hain (Don't take pictures, she's asking us to stop)."
The video quickly gained traction across social media platforms, where many users emphasised the need to respect a celebrity's request for privacy when they clearly indicate discomfort.
Mouni has also been in the spotlight recently after publicly confirming her separation from husband Suraj Nambiar.
Announcing the decision on Instagram, the actor wrote, "We note with dismay the unnecessary and intrusive attention into our personal lives by certain quarters of the media. We would like to state that we have decided to part ways and are taking the necessary time to address matters privately and amicably."
She further stated that the two are currently focused on "navigating this phase privately and amicably", while adding that the friendship they shared would always remain special.
Appealing for restraint, she urged the media and the public to respect their privacy. The caption read, "Humbly requesting everyone to give us privacy and dignity and not give out any false stories about me or Suraj. Expecting all of you to give us privacy in these hard times. Humble request to all the media houses to please stop."
Mouni Roy and Suraj Nambiar were married in Goa on January 27, 2022. Their wedding celebrations included haldi and sangeet ceremonies, followed by both traditional Malayali and Bengali wedding rituals, before concluding with a post-wedding pool party.
Suraj Nambiar is a businessman and investment banker from Bengaluru who reportedly lived in Dubai before marrying the actor.
