Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have officially come back together for Practical Magic 2, starting filming on the highly anticipated sequel to their 1998 cult favorite fantasy film.
In the original film, which was directed by Griffin Dunne and based on Alice Hoffman's 1995 novel Practical Magic, the pair played the Owens sisters—Gillian and Sally—two witches struggling with love, heartbreak, and prejudice in a small American town.
Now, almost three decades down the line, Kidman and Bullock are returning to those legendary roles. The sequel is scheduled for release in theaters on September 18, 2026, and is being directed by award-winning director Susanne Bier.
Kidman gave supporters a glimpse back in time at the reunion by posting a behind-the-scenes clip on Instagram Friday. The video began with the two actresses hugged on set, obviously excited to be reunited. She posted: "The witches are back. Owens sisters' first day on set! #PracticalMagic."
The original Practical Magic had a solid supporting cast that comprised Alexandra Artrip, Evan Rachel Wood, and Stockard Channing. The two sisters were raised by kooky aunts in a home where magic existed—but love was under a curse. The movie mixed supernatural intrigue with sisterhood and resilience themes.
The sequel was finally confirmed in June of last year, generating hype among fans of the cult favorite. With Kidman and Bullock reprising their roles, and Susanne Bier adding her trademark emotional depth to the helm, Practical Magic 2 is looking like a spellbinding sequel.
