The Election Commission of India (ECI) declared on Wednesday that the office of Bihar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has received a combined 60,010 claims and objections of individual electors seeking addition or deletion of their names in the state's draft electoral rolls.
Of these submissions, 2,394 applications have been dealt with by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) till date.
The Commission pointed out that, despite 20 days having passed since the draft rolls were released on August 1, no political party has filed any objection or complaint. The timeline for filing claims and objections will continue up to September 1.
According to the rules put in place, claims and objections are settled seven days after the verification of the concerned supporting documents.
Along with this, the ECI has also announced that since August 1, 1,98,660 new voters—those who have attained the age of 18 after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise—have applied to be enrolled in the electoral rolls.
The Commission has given a one-month window to the people, parties, and their 1.6 lakh booth-level agents (BLAs) for making corrections or objections. Of these BLAs, the RJD has 47,506, the Congress 17,549, and Left parties have more than 2,000, together constituting over 67,000 representatives.
The ECI reiterated that, after repeated appeals, political parties have remained mostly dormant in the process of revision.
Put forth your claims and objections to correct any discrepancies in the draft electoral roll of Bihar released on August 1. Till date, not even a single claim or objection has been put forth by any political party," the Commission said.
The election panel also made it clear that electoral rolls are made strictly as per the law.
Electors whose names have been left out can furnish Form 6 and a photocopy of their Aadhaar by September 1, 2025.
If any ineligible persons' names have found space, objections can be raised under Form 7 by the electors of the relevant Assembly constituency.
Recognised parties' BLAs may file Forms 6 and 7 on behalf of voters. Also, even non-electors of the constituency may raise objections through a declaration under Rule 20(3)(b) of the RER 1960, the ECI added.
