India and Saudi Arabia Explore Joint Manufacturing of Military Hardware

The discussions centered on cooperation in a variety of areas including training, industrial collaborations, maritime cooperation and military exercises, the defence ministry said.

India proposed training the Saudi military and cooperation in fields of cyberspace, information technology, disaster management and tactical communication, it added.

"Opportunities were discussed for joint manufacturing and collaboration in defence equipment with Saudi Arabia," the ministry stated in a press release.

"India and Saudi Arabia have a steadily deepening defence partnership," it said.

It is seen through the establishment of a ministerial committee on defence cooperation under the strategic partnership council during April's visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Saudi Arabia, the ministry added.

The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad from the Indian and Maj Gen Saad Mohammed H Alkathiri from the Saudi side.
