India will participate in a multilateral combined military exercise in Russia from September 10 to 16 to improve interoperability between participating countries and provide a forum to exchange tactics, techniques, and procedures in conventional warfare and counter-terrorism, officials said.
A 65-person group from the Indian military left for Russia on Tuesday to attend 'Exercise Zapad', which will be conducted at the Mulino Training Ground in Nizhniy, as per the defence ministry.
The Indian contingent is composed of 57 members of the Army, seven from the Air Force, and one member from the Navy. The Army unit is led by a Kumaon Regiment battalion, assisted by members of other arms and services.
Emphasizing the intent of the event, the ministry stated: "improving military cooperation, enhancing interoperability, and offering a forum for participating armies to share tactics, techniques and procedures in conventional warfare and counter-terrorism operations."
The current edition of the exercise will focus on joint company-level tasks over open and plain terrain. The activities will include combined planning, tactical exercises, and specialized skill training, officials said.
The drill is anticipated to offer the essential platform for refining combined operational preparedness, integrating new technology, and operating efficiently within a multinational combat environment.
The ministry further stated that India's participation in 'Exercise Zapad 2025' will enhance defence cooperation and foster friendship between India and Russia, thus "reinforcing the spirit of cooperation and mutual trust.
