Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Biocon Founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw have been named among Forbes 100 list of most powerful women. The list is topped by Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel for the 10th year in a row.
The Forbes list also includes US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, HCL Enterprise CEO, and Roshni Nadar Malhotra. The women named in the list were born across four generations and belong to 30 countries.
Forbes said, “There are 10 heads of state, 38 CEOs and five entertainers among them. But where they differ in age, nationality, and job description, they are united in the ways they have been using their platforms to address the unique challenges of 2020.”
Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is ranked 41st on the list, while Nadar Malhotra takes 55th spot, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (Mentioned as India's richest woman) ranked 68th, and chairwoman of Landmark Group Renuka Jagtiani ranked 98th.
“(Angela) Merkel remains the de facto leader of Europe, leading the region’s largest economy after steering Germany through financial crisis and back to growth. Her leadership is marked by her steely reserve, from standing up to Donald Trump to allowing more than a million Syrian refugees into Germany,” said Forbes describing Angela Merkel who ranked 1st for 10th year in a row.
US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris who became the first woman, first Black American, and also first Asian American to be elected as US Vice President, ranked 3rd on the list.
This is Forbes' 17th list for World's 100 Most Powerful Women.
