PM Modi expressed these views in a review meeting which he undertook to oversee the status and preparedness of public health response to Covid-19 in the country, amid reports of a spike in cases in countries like neighbouring China, the U.S., Italy, Japan and South Korea.
No case of BF.7 variant found in Delhi, no need to panic: CM Kejriwal

"Covid cases are rising in China and several other countries. It is the BF.7 variant. We don't have a single case of that variant in Delhi. So there's no need to worry. We are doing genome sequencing. Currently, XBB variant cases are coming in Delhi," he said at a a press briefing after the review meeting.

"This message circulating in many WhatsApp groups regarding XXB variant of Covid 19 is FAKE and Misleading", said the health ministry on Thursday.The viral message claims that "the new variant of the COVID-Omicron XBB coronavirus is different, deadly and not easy to detect correctly.
India reports 185 fresh Covid cases, 1 death

In the same period, the country has recorded one Covid related death, taking the national toll to 5,30,681 as per the report. Meanwhile, the active caseload of the country presently stands at 3,402 cases, accounting for 0.01 per cent of the country's total positive cases.

Also called the Omicron Spawn, the BF.7 sub-variant, first detected in India in October, is the newest form that has high transmissibility. According to health experts, this is because the new variant quickly bypasses the immunity that a person has developed through a natural infection with an earlier variant or even if the complete course of the vaccines are taken.
