Some relief from 'cold day' conditions expected till Jan 1: IMD
A cold day is when the minimum temperature is less than or equal to 10 degrees Celsius below normal and the maximum temperature is at least 4.5 degrees below normal. A severe cold day is when the maximum is 6.5 degrees or more below normal. A 'severe' cold wave is when the minimum temperature dips to two degrees Celsius or the departure from normal is more than 6.4 degrees Celsius.
Dense to very dense fog to continue in Delhi, lowest temperature at Raj's Churu: IMD
The minimum temperatures were recorded in the range of 3-7 degress Celsius over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northwest Madhya Pradesh. The lowest minimum temperature of 0.5 degrees Celsius was reported at Churu in west Rajasthan. According to the Metrological Department, the cold wave to severe cold wave conditions prevailed in many pockets over Himachal Pradesh and in isolated pockets over Haryana and north Rajasthan on Tuesday.
India logs 157 new Covid cases in 24 hrs
The active caseload currently stands at 3,421 cases, accounting for 0.01 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The weekly and daily positivity rates stood at 0.18 per cent and 0.32 per cent, respectively. The recovery of 163 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,41,43,342. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.80 per cent.
Cold wave grips Delhi, fog affects visibility slows traffic
"A minimum temperature of 7 degree Celsius was recorded in Delhi," said the Meteorological (MeT) office. The MeT office said that a layer of dense fog and moderate icy cold winds from the North were responsible for this steep fall in temperature.
