'Report of Germany snubbing India as G7 guest over Russia wrong'
German govermnemt spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit said Berlin would present its list of guest attendees as soon as it is finalised, while German Embassy sources told IANS that the report is "wrong". The report stated that Germany is weighing "whether to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit it's hosting in June given India's reluctance to condemn Russia for invading Ukraine".
Indian, Australian navies carry out operations to enhance interoperability
A meeting in this regard was co-chaired by Royal Australian Navy's Deputy Chief Rear Admiral Christopher Smith, and Indian Navy's Assistant Chief of Naval Staff, Foreign Cooperation and Intelligence, Rear Admiral J. Singh. Commodore Stewart Dunne, Hydrographer to Australian government, also attended the meeting. The event witnessed active participation from both navies.
49 terrorists neutralised in J&K since Jan 1: CRPF
In the month of April, eight terrorists were killed in the operation while 10 were apprehended by the security forces including the CRPF. The officials also said that during the recent operations, one Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in Anantnag district on April 9, two foreign terrorists were killed in Srinagar on April 10 while two including one foreign terrorist were killed on April 11 in Jammu and Kashmir.
'Important matter', SC on plea seeking ICJ proceedings against Pak to release Indian PoWs
A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Surya Kant noted that the plea raises an important issue, as it issued notice to the central government. The bench said: "It is an important matter...to be listed after 3 weeks. Liberty to serve through standing counsel". The plea arraigned the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Defence, and the Chief of Army Staff as respondents.
The plea, filed through advocate Namit Saxena, sought a direction to all the respondents, to approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Pakistan with appropriate judicial remedies, which are binding in nature for release of all the Indian PoWs held under the torturous custody of Pakistan, in violation of the Geneva Convention for Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Rajnath visits US Indo-Pacific Command headquarters in Hawaii
On his arrival from Washington DC, Singh was received by Commander, US INDOPACOM Admiral John Aquilino. The USINDOPACOM and Indian military have wide-ranging engagements, including a number of military exercises, training events and exchanges. Singh was visiting the USINDOPACOM headquarters, Pacific Fleet and the training facilities in Hawaii, before returning to India. He was also expected to lay a wreath at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and visit the Headquarters of the US Army Pacific and Pacific Air Forces, during his brief stay in Hawaii.
India logs 1,088 fresh Covid cases, 26 deaths in 24 hrs
In the same period, as many as 26 Covid-related deaths occurred across the country, taking the total fatalities to 5,21,736. The active caseload has declined to 10,870. Active cases now constitute 0.03 per cent of the country's total positive cases. A total of 1,081 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 4,25,05,410. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.76 per cent.
India declares JeM cadre Ali Kashif Jan as designated terrorist
Jan alias Jan Ali Kashif is the third terrorist to have been designated as a terrorist by the Centre in the last five days. According to the Gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Jan is accused in various cases and is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency, including for the Pathankot Air Force station terror attack of 2016.
Made-in-India Dornier aircraft makes its maiden commercial flight in NE
The officials of the Airport Authority of India said that the Dornier type aircraft of Alliance Air made by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited from Tuesday began its commercial passenger services in different northeastern states. The state-owned HAL has been manufacturing Dornier aircraft after transfer of technology from the German firm that owned it, but made-in-India aircraft were not used for civil aviation until now.
