PM Modi speaks to President Putin on safe passage of Indians
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on phone on Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the situation in Ukraine, and sought safge passage for Indians in the country. The two leaders reviewed the situation, especially in the city of Kharkiv where many Indian students are stuck, and discussed the safe evacuation of Indian nationals from the conflict areas, an MEA statement said.
Around 17,000 Indian nationals have left Ukraine border: MEA
Around 17,000 Indian nationals have left war-torn Ukraine's borders since the Indian Embassy in Ukraine issued advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday. "We now estimate that nearly 17,000 Indian nationals have left Ukraine's borders since our advisories were issued in the last week," MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said. He said that the Embassy in Kiev has been asked to set up a temporary office in Lviv to facilitate border crossing by Indian nationals.

Soon after certain reports surfaced, NCB Deputy Director-General Sanjay Singh and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) issued a statement claiming that "the media reports are not true and they are just speculalions", since "the investigation is not yet complete". Singh added that "these reports were not cross-checked with the NCB, and it would be premature to say anything at this stage".
VK Singh meets Indian students stranded on Poland-Ukraine border
Union minister General (Retd) V.K. Singh on Wednesday visited Budomierz on the Poland- Ukraine border where he met the stranded Indian students and distributed food and water to them.These students will be facilitated entry into Poland soon from where they will be sent to India. After meeting with the Indian students there, Singh said that though they are exhausted, the students are relieved that efforts are being made to bring them back to their motherland.
Parliamentary panel to meet, Jaishankar likely to brief on evacuation mission
It is expected that Jaishankar may inform the committee about the progress of the evacuation operation under 'Operation Ganga' and steps being taken to airlift the rest of the Indians stuck in the war-torn country. The meeting is scheduled at 11 a.m. The Parliamentary panel is likely to question India's stand in the changing geo-political situation after Russia initiated the military action against Ukraine.
Govt must give details of evacuation plan: Rahul
As India stepped up the evacuation process from Ukraine, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday demanded that the government must share the details of the evacuation plan regarding number of students that have been evacuated, the numbers still stranded in Ukraine and region-wise detailed evacuation plan as we owe a clear strategy & communication to the families involved.
90% of medical students studying abroad fail to clear qualifying exam in India after their return: Union Minister Prahlad Joshi
“90% of Indians who study medicine abroad fail to clear qualifying exams in India… (However) This is not the right time to debate why students are moving out to study medicine,” Minister Joshi said.
Minister Joshi assured that the government officials are in contact with the Ukrainian and Russian counterparts to ensure safe passage of Indian students so that they can fly home.
3 IAF aircraft leave to evacuate stranded Indians
Indian Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal Sandeep Singh said that three C-17 have been sent as of now. "Relief materials are also being sent. The operation is underway in coordination with the MEA," he said. Talking about the capability of the Indian Air Force to operate such flights, he said, "We can operate four flights a day."
Indian student killed in Ukraine stayed back to help juniors: Report
Indian students who are currently stuck in eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv have informed that Naveen S., who died due to shelling on Tuesday, had stepped out of the bunker to buy food items for the stranded students. He was part of the group which stayed behind to help junior students escape along, as per a report by the Indian Express (IE).
Special flight carrying 218 Indian nationals from Bucharest lands in Delhi
Another special flight carrying 218 Indian nationals from Ukraine - evacuated via Bucharest - under the 'Operation Ganga' landed at Delhi airport on Wednesday morning.This is the ninth flight of 'Operation Ganga' that evacuated stranded Indian citizens from Ukraine. According to an estimate, a total of 18,000 students were stranded in the war-torn Ukraine.
