DCGI permits Bharat Biotech to conduct trials for intranasal booster dose

The vaccine manufacturer had proposed the booster dose for those who have been already been inoculated with Covishield and Covaxin vaccines. "Granting permission to conduct clinical trials with vaccine does not convey or imply that, based on the clinical trial data generated with the vaccine, permission to market this vaccine in the country will automatically be granted," said the national drugs regulator.

A bench headed by Justice A.M. Khanwilkar said the suspension could have only been for a session of the House. It further added that the resolution for suspending the 12 BJP MLAs for a year was illegal and declared it ineffective. On January 19, the top court reserved the verdict on petitions challenging the one-year suspension of the 12 BJP MLAs from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
Omicron sub-variant BA.2 gradually increasing in India: Centre

Addressing a Health Ministry press briefing, Singh said that Omicron sub-variant BA.2 is more prevalent in comparison to the BA.1 variant in India now, adding that the BA.3 sub-variant has not been detected in India yet. "Earlier, the BA.1 variant was dominant among the samples collected from the travellers. Now in community settings, we have found that the BA.2 sub-variant is gradually increasing," he said.

Delhi's daily Covid cases dips 42% to 4,291, positivity rate at 9.5%

The positivity rate has reduced to 9.5 per cent with active cases declining to 33,175 as per the Health Department bulletin. The fresh Covid infections and deaths have pushed the tally to 18,15,288 and the death toll to 25,744. With Covid recovery rate climbing at 96.75 per cent, the active cases rate in Delhi stands at 1.82 per cent while the death rate continues at 1.42 per cent. The cases reported on Thursday are 4,291, against 7,498 cases on Wednesday, while there were 34 deaths.
PM Modi talks regional security, cooperation in First India- Central Asia Summit

The ministry of external affairs organised the summit virtually on Thursday which was attended by the heads of all five Central Asian countries -- Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan. It is an extension of the 3rd meeting of the India-Central Asia Dialogue which was held in New Delhi on 19 December 2021 under the chairmanship of the External Affairs Minister of India and attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of these countries.
