MEA aims to open 'Passport Seva Kendra' in every LS constituency
As on date 93 PSKs, 428 POPSKs and 36 Passport Offices are operational. The Programme has recently been connected to more than 176 Indian Missions/Posts through Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP), providing "seamless" delivery of passport services to the Indian diaspora, the ministry has said. The PSP-V2.0 is a continuation and enhancement of PSP-V1.0, an e-Governance instrument, which introduced "unprecedented transformation" in delivery of passport related services to citizens, the ministry added.
No immediate plan for Uniform Civil Code, Centre tells Delhi HC
In its response to a petition filed by advocate Ashwini Upahadhay, the Central government said it has requested the Law Commission to undertake an examination of various issues relating to the Uniform Civil Code and to make recommendations thereof. The government submitted that the purpose behind the Constitution's Article 44, seeking a Uniform Civil Code for the citizens, is to strengthen the object of "The Secular Democratic Republic" as enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution.
3 terrorists killed, army officer injured in Kashmir encounter
The police said that based on specific inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in Zolwa Chadoora village area of Budgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched on Thursday evening by the police and the army. During the search operation, the terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. Later on, the CRPF also joined the operation.
No plausible reason for long Covid to be less with Omicron: Experts
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), long Covid "is a range of symptoms that can last weeks or months after first being infected with the virus that causes Covid-19 or can appear weeks after infection. Long Covid can happen to anyone who has had Covid-19, even if their illness was mild, or if they had no symptoms". More than 50 long-term effects of Covid-19 have been detected. But the most common symptoms reported by Covid survivors four to 12 weeks after acute infection are headache, fatigue, sleep disturbance, concentration difficulties and abdominal pain.
'Urgent to commence counselling': SC clears decks for NEET-PG admissions with EWS, OBC quota
A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and A.S. Bopanna said: "Counselling on the basis of NEET-PG 2021 and NEET- UG 2021 shall be conducted by giving effect to the reservation as provided by the notice dated 29 July 2021, including the 27 per cent reservation for the OBC category and 10 per cent reservation for EWS category in the AIQ seats." In a 5-page order, the bench added: "The validity of the criteria determined by the Pandey Committee for identification of EWS would prospectively for the future be subject to the final result of the petitions."
UP bags best state award in water conservation efforts
The awards were announced by Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The awards were instituted to encourage and recognise individuals and organisations doing exemplary work in the field of water resources management. "Water is fundamental to life. India's current water requirement is estimated to be around 1,100 billion cubic meters per year, projected to go up to 1,447 billion cubic meters by 2050. Water as a resource is crucial to India, which is one of the fastest growing economies in the world," Shekhawat said.
Weekend Lockdown: Delhi Police answer queries on social media
To curb further spread of Covid-19, the national capital will remain under a stringent curfew from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. People posted several questions on Delhi Police's official Twitter handle regarding the night curfew. Though the police responded to few of them, many queries went unanswered. Responding to one of the questions posed by a Twitter user, the Delhi Police said that industries with on-site labour will run as usual, following all Covid appropriate behaviour.
Nagpur 'terror recce': Police tighten security at RSS HQ
Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said that militants linked with the Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-E-Mohammed (JeM) had come to Nagpur recently and conducted a recce of several key locations across the state's second capital, sparking security concerns. Following a security review and a heightened threat perception, the Nagpur police have deployed additional security there as a precautionary measure, he told media persons.
Covid Alarm: Delhi reports 17,335 new cases, 9 deaths
The new cases pushed the national capital's overall infection tally to 15,06,798 so far. A total of nine persons succumbed to the virus in Delhi in the past 24 hourse, pushing the overall Covid death toll to 25,136. The national capital last reported nine or more Covid fatalities on June 26 last year, when the same number of Covid patients had died. The infection rate in the city climbed to 17.73 per cent on Friday, the highest in last eight months. According to the Delhi health department, the city had reported 17.75 per cent positivity rate on May 11, 2021.
