West Bengal mulls replacing Governor with CM as varsities' Chancellor

Interacting with the media in a programme, state Education Minister Bratya Basu said: "The Governor does not extend any cooperation and unnecessarily holds back files, thus my department is constrained to consider replacing the Governor with the Chief Minister as the Chancellor of different universities."
Hindutvavadis spread hatred: Rahul Gandhi

In a tweet after the Haridwar incident came to light, Rahul said, "Hindutvadis always spread hatred and violence and Hindus Muslims Sikhs and Christians pay the price but not any more." The incident was reported to have taken place in Haridwar during an event held from December 17 to 20. The video clips circulated on social media say that "Hindus should arm themselves like those seen in Myanmar, every Hindu must pick up weapons and conduct a Safayi Abhiyan."
Second Covid wave style curbs return in Maharashtra

The measure comes in the wake of increasing Covid-19 cases and galloping Omicron infections - the latter soaring to 108 since the first case recorded on December 4. Besides, the government has reintroduced restrictions on different types of gatherings at open or closed venues, and in all public places. Restaurants, gymns, spas, cinemas, theatres shall be alowed to operate at only 50 per cent of their capacity.
Rising Omicron risks do not dissuade 58% Indians from travel: Surve

Besides, the survey showed that of those who plan to travel in the next 90 days, the highest number, 49 per cent are likely to visit family, friends and also undertake other miscellaneous travel while 21 per cent have plans to travel to a holiday destination.
Gujarat extends night curfew timings amid Omicron scare

According to a notification, the change in the timings will be effective from December 25 in the cities of Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar. Gujarat has seen a surge in Covid-19 cases of late. On Thursday, more than 100 new cases were reported in a single day after nearly seven months. On Friday, it saw a little less than 100 cases, including 13 with Omicron variant.

Delhi records 180 fresh Covid cases, highest in last 6 months

With the new Covid cases - the highest single day rise after June 16, the capital's tally has climbed to 14,42,813, while the number of active cases also have climbed to 782, the highest in last five and half months. According to the Health Department, the city had reported highest 792 active covid cases on July 10. However, no Covid death has been reported in the capital city in last 24 hours, and death toll remains at 25,103.
Karnataka Assembly sitting ends, BJP to present Anti-Conversion bill in next session in council

The BJP is planning to present the controversial bill in the upper house after the newly elected members to the council take oath. Ludhiana court blast: Intelligence inputs reveal hand of Pakistan-backed Khalistani terrorists

The blast at the Ludhiana court complex that killed 1 person and injured 5 others on Thursday was carried out by Pakistan-backed Khalistani terrorists. Times of India reported quoting intelligence agencies. After the 26 January Red Fort incident, intelligence agencies were on alert in Punjab. According to the agencies, they shared inputs with the local police as well. The identity of the person who died in this incident is yet to be been ascertained.
New expressway betwwen Delhi and Lucknow to cut travel time from 7 to 3.5 hours: Nitin Gadkari

Gadkari further said that this is the beginning of a new era of smart and green highways in India. He also said that the groundbreaking ceremony of this new proposed expressway link will be held in the coming 10-12 days in the presence of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath. Delhi and Lucknow are currently connected via the Yamuna or Taj Expressway. At present the travel time between the two cities is over 7 hours.
