India may invite Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan for the 26 January 2022 Republic Day parade as the chief guests of the special event. India's relations with the Central Asian countries are vital due to security cooperation among the nations, especially considering situations in Talian-ruled Afghanistan and China's growing dominance among other important trade and cultural links.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was speaking after inaugurating 'Swarnim Vijay Parv' celebration at India Gate on 50 years of India's 1971 war. Singh said, "After the defeat in 1971, Pakistan is continuously fighting a proxy war. Pakistan wants to disrupt peace in India by promoting terrorism and other anti-India activities. The Indian forces foiled their plans in 1971 and work to eliminate terrorism from its root is underway. We have won in a direct war and the victory will be ours in an indirect war as well," he added.

ICMR develops testing kit to detect Omicron in 2 hrs

"ICMR-RMRC, Dibrugarh, has designed and developed a hydrolysis probe-based real-time RT-PCR assay for detection of the new Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) SARS-CoV-2 that can detect the new variant within two hours. This is important because as of now a minimum of 36 hours is required for targeted sequencing and 4 to 5 days for whole-genome sequencing to detect the variant," said Dr Biswajyoti Borkakoty.

India reports 7,774 fresh Covid cases, 306 deaths in a day

With 306 new deaths, the total death toll has climbed to 4,75,434 so far. The recovery of 8,464 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recoveries to 3,41,22,795. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.36 per cent, the highest since March 2020. India's active caseload presently stands at 92,281, which is the lowest in 560 days. Active cases constitute 0.27 per cent of the country's total positive cases, which is the lowest since March 2020.
