Rafale row: Cong to amp up pressure for JPC probe during winter session
The winter session is likely to see a high-pitched battle between the government and opposition on the procurement of the fighter planes, where the Congress alleges "corruption". According to sources, to mobilise support, the Congress leaders have been asked to reach out to the leaders of like-minded parties which are opposed to the NDA government. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal alleged that the BJP is running away from the JPC probe.
India reports 13,091 new Covid-19 cases, 340 deaths
With the new fatalities, the nationwide death toll has increased to 4,62,189, according to the Ministry. The recovery of 13,878 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally to 3,38,00,925. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.25 per cent, the highest since March 2020. The active caseload at 1,38,556 is the lowest in 266 days. Active cases presently constitute 0.40 per cent of the country's total positive cases, the lowest since March 2020.

The security heads of five Central Asian countries - Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, along with Russia and Iran, called on the PM soon after the dialogue completed in New Delhi. PM Modi, during the meet pointed out four important aspects the countries would need to focus on. The four aspects includes the need for an inclusive government, a zero-tolerance stance about Afghan soil being used by terrorist groups, a strategy to counter trafficking of drugs and arms from Afghanistan, and the need to address the increasingly critical humanitarian crisis in war-torn country
5 killed in Bihar during Chatth Puja festivities
The first incident took place in Dewaria village in Hajipur district where a person died and another was critically injured after their speeding car crashed into a divider. The deceased, the son of a senior police officer, was on way to celebrate Chatth in Muzaffarpur, they said. In another incident, two persons, including a minor, drowned in Narpatganj in Araria district. The victims were a part of a group of devotees who were taking a bath in the JCB canal after the puja.

Sharma was conferred the honorary rank at a special ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, a communiqe from the President's office said. The citation mentioned that throughout his exemplary career, Sharma, an alumnus of Nepali Military Academy who was commissioned into the Nepali Army in March 1984, has demonstrated dynamic leadership, outstanding professionalism and has also been an advocate of subsiting modernisation process of the Nepali Army.
Hyderabad youth held for rape threat to Virat Kohli's daughter
Mumbai police have identified the accused as Ramnagesh Akubathini, a 23-year-old techie who had earlier worked with a food delivery services app. The threat messages had gone viral and caused widespread outrage after they were posted on social media. The threat message targeting star cricketer Virat Kohli had initially been presumed to have originated in Pakistan.

NHPC to commission first two units of india’s biggest hydro-electric project in 2022
NHPC chairman-cum-managing director A.K. Singh has informed the visiting Parliamentary Standing Committee on energy (2021-22) about the construction progress of the project. The 2000 MW capacity Subansiri lower hydro-electric project is the biggest hydro-electric project in India so far. The project is a run of river scheme on river Subansir located near North Lakhimpur on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
'Sorry state in Tihar, murder happening': SC asks MHA to act fast on prison reforms
A bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and M.R. Shah told Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj: "When will MHA take action? Need immediate reforms - jammers and body scanners - to ensure no unauthorised use of mobile phones takes place (on the Tihar jail premises)." The bench seemed unhappy with MHA failing to file an action plan and report on steps taken on the suggestions given by Delhi Police chief.
