With only 214 active cases, 31 UP districts are Covid free

Thirty one districts of the state are now totally free from coronavirus infection and these are Aligarh, Amroha, Ayodhya, Baghpat, Ballia, Balrampur, Banda, Basti, Bahraich, Bhadohi, Bijnor, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Deoria, Etah, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Gonda, Hamirpur, Hapur, Hardoi, Hathras, Kaushambhi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Muzaffarnagar, Pilibhit, Rampur, Shamli, Siddharth Nagar and Sonbhadra.
No gathering, processions on Ganesh Chaturthi in Delhi: DDMA

Any procession or gathering in connection with Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will be prohibited, it said. The festival starts on Friday, and concludes on September 21. "Considering the prevailing restrictions on gatherings and congregations and present situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been decided that Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations may not be allowed in public places and people may be advised to celebrate the festival at their home only," a notice issued by Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev said.
Emergency landing field on NH near Indo-Pak border to be opened on Thursday

Once functional, it will be the first occasion when a National Highway of the country will be used as an emergency landing field. Situated near the India-Pakistan border, this strip has been developed under the Bharatmala Project in Barmer district, some 40 km from Pakistan. This project will improve the connectivity between the border villages of Barmer and Jalore districts. Located near the western borders of the country, the emergency air field will help increase the vigilance capacity of the Indian Army, besides strengthen the infrastructure of the region.
BJP focus on caste in appointing poll-bound states in-charges

The BJP on Wednesday appointed election in-charges and co-incharges for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa, and Punjab, where Assembly polls will be held early next year. A party leader said that all the appointments for the high-stake Uttar Pradesh poll aimed at giving representation to all important, dominant, and decisive castes and communities.
EC seeks report on doles announced for puja committees in Bengal

The state Home Department has been asked to submit a detailed report in the matter. Though the state government, which has already sent its reply to the poll panel, is tight-lipped, senior officials are of the opinion that the state government has not violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Highly-placed sources in the Home Department said that the announcement was made by the Chief Secretary, and not Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is contesting the bypolls from the Bhowanipur Assembly constituency in Kolkata.
Jagannath Temple to remain open for devotees on Saturdays too

The temple was reopened for devotees on August 16, but since then, had remained closed for the devotees on the weekends. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Wednesday issued a fresh SOP for opening of the temple for devotees. As per the SOP, which will come into force on September 13, the temple will remain closed to the public on all Sundays in order to sanitise the premises to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Yadav's comments came after the meeting between the district administration and the protesting farmers ended inconclusively for a second straight day on Wednesday. He was referring to the farmers' demand to suspend SDM Ayush Sinha, who was allegedly caught on camera instructing the police to beat up the farmers during their protest on August 28. The meeting between the farmers' delegation and the district administration on Wednesday lasted for around five hours, but ended without any breakthrough.
