Speaker Birla to lead Parl delegation to Vienna from Sep 7-9

The delegation, comprising of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh, will attend the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (5WCSP) on September 7 and 8 and the First Global Parliamentary Summit on Countering Terrorism on September 9. Both conferences are being organized jointly by the inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Amit Shah's remark on Bommai has not gone down well with party leaders

Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar who refused to join the cabinet of Bommai saying that it hurts his self respect to be under his junior, on Saturday met B.S. Yediyurappa, who recently stepped down from the CM's post to make way for Bommai. Both leaders discussed for about 30 minutes the developments in the Karnataka BJP. Sources said that both are unhappy with Amit Shah's statement projecting Bommai as the future leader of the party.
Focus on 60+, administer 2nd dose to eligible persons: Centre

Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan pointed out that the states should focus on the 60+ age group as the coverage of both the doses in this category is unsatisfactory in Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya. The vulnerability of this age group to Covid makes this exercise of prime importance. He suggested that the states must earmark doses and days and target the completion of the exercise for these beneficiaries.

Centre signs Karbi peace pact with 6 militant groups of Assam

The peace agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and representatives of the six Karbi outfits. The militants groups are People's Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT), Kuki Liberation Front (KLF) and United People's Liberation Army (UPLA).
Ex-Haryana CM Chautala finally clears Class 10 English paper

The board announced the results of the supplementary examination.Chautala last month passed the class XII exam but the result was withheld as he hadn't cleared the English paper for class X. He had enrolled in class XII of the board's Open School last year but exams couldn't be held because of the pandemic.
After TN and Kerala, now K'taka to ban online gambling

Minister for Law J.C. Madhuswamy explained that the government will amend the Karnataka Police Act in the upcoming session (Sept 13) to ban online gambling. This has been done as per the directions of the High Court. However, the ban will not include lottery, wagering, betting on horse races, he said.
Another BJP MLA, fourth so far, returns to Trinamool

Kaliaganj MLA Soumen Roy on Saturday joined the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata in the presence of state minister and party leader Partha Chatterjee. Justifying his return to the party, Roy said, "I had to contest from Kaliaganj on a BJP ticket due to some circumstances. But my soul and heart belong to Trinamool. I joined the party again to support Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's efforts. I apologise to the party for the time I was not with it."
