The roster of officials Shringla met over Thursday and Friday and discussed the Afghanistan situation included Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer. The meetings came amid unease among US partners and allies over the American retreat from Afghanistan and the chaos it has left behind.
41.3% not satisfied with Rahul Gandhi in 5 poll-bound states

The survey was conducted in five poll-bound states - Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarkhand. The oevrall sample size for the survey was 81,006, covering 690 Assembly seats. The state poll is part of the largest and definitive independent sample survey tracker series carried out in India over the last 22 years.
Mobile phone service, broadband restored in Kashmir

Voice calling services on mobile phones of all service providers and broadband facility on fixed-line connections were restored late Friday evening in the Valley. Officials have said that the Internet facility on mobile phones will be restored on Sunday afternoon.

Modi still the best PM candidate in poll-bound states: Survey

As per the survey, Modi has maintained his popularity graph and is way ahead of prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. At pan-India level, 41 per cent of the respondents prefer Modi, while 11.3 per cent chose Rahul Gandhi as the best PM candidate.
Fresh troubles along Assam-Mizoram border over roads, camps

Lalthlangliana, in a letter to his Hailakandi (Assam) counterpart Rohan Jha, alleged that Assam Police personnel had, at gun point, kidnapped JCB operator Lalngaisanga on Thursday while he was constructing a private road on the request of the 'Jhum' farmers (shifting cultivators).
'Mysterious' tunnel found in Delhi Assembly, to open for public soon

Presently, its history is not fully known, but it is being estimated that the tunnel was used during the British times for movement of political prisoners. With renovation works underway, it is expected that the tunnel will be opened for the general public by January 26 or August 15, 2022.

The Congress is facing severe infighting across all the state units with Punjab and Manipur being the worst-hit states.
SC seeks SEBI's reply on NDTV promoters' plea against levy of penalty

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the Roys, submitted before a bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana that the third member of the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) is not there, therefore and the hearing on the appeals is stuck. He added that proceedings to levy the penalty has been initiated and the appeals have to be decided without charging the penalty at this stage.
Chidambaram poses 20 tough questions on Rs 6 lakh Cr NMP

Stating that the government should answer the questions, he demanded to know the NMP objectives and whether it was solely intended to raise the revenues over the next four years. Referring to the criteria adopted upfront to identify the PSUs that would be disinvested or privatized during the previous UPA government, Chidambaram queried whether the same is the case with the current NDA regime.
