There were a whopping 14,411 cross-border firing incidents from 2010 till February 2021, claiming a staggering 267 lives, as per RTI replies given to Pune activist Prafful Sarda. This includes 1,178 firings notched between 2010-2014 during the Congress-led UPA government and a staggering 13,235 from 2015 till February 2021.
Scrap power purchase pacts, Sidhu asks Punjab CM

India logs 42,909 new Covid cases, 380 deaths

A total of 380 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours pushing the death toll to 4,38,210. With 7,766 active cases, India's total active tally rose to 3,76,324, which is 1.15 per cent of the total Covid cases in the county. India's total recovery has risen to 3,19,23,405 till Monday with 34,763 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours.
Infiltration bid foiled at LoC in J&K's Poonch, terrorist killed

The Army said that in the early hours a terrorist from across the LoC made an attempt to infiltrate in the Poonch sector. "Alert Army troops detected the infiltration bid by effective use of the integrated surveillance grid," the Army said. "On being challenged by the Army troops, there ensued a fierce firefight with the terrorist in which one terrorist was neutralised, and his body along with an AK-47 rifle has been recovered."
P.V. Narasimha Rao's daughter Vani Devi takes oath as MLC

Council Protem Chairman Bhoopal Reddy administered oath to her at a simple ceremony held in his chamber. Vani Devi was elected to the upper house of the state legislature in March from Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates' constituency as the candidate of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). She had defeated her nearest rival N. Ramchander Rao of the BJP by 36,580 votes.
The other side of Delhi's Smog Tower - a work still in progress

The primary work of electricity supply to the tower is still in the progress. Only after this is completed, will the installation of air filters commence. Meanwhile each side of the tower was supposed to have 10 fans, or 40 in total, but many of these were still to be installed at the time of inauguration. Air pollution is one of the leading causes of death across the globe, and has been established as a potential reason for cardiac arrest.
Maha Transport Minister Parab now summoned by ED, Sena slams move

Parab has been issued summons to appear before the ED on August 31, ostensibly in connection with the ongoing probe into the corruption allegations levelled by dismissed former Mumbai cop Sachin Vaze. Confirming the development, Parab said late this evening that he received the ED notice but it has only sought his appearance on Tuesday.
