Upto Taliban to reassure neighbours through zero tolerance for terror: India

As Security Council members heard of the violence in Afghanistan where the Taliban has swept to power after 20 years, India's Permanent Representative T.S. Tirumurti said: "If there is a zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and it is ensured that the territory of Afghanistan is not used by terrorist groups to threaten or attack any other country, then Afghanistan's neighbours and the region would feel safer."

Fearing attacks on the Indian community working with private companies in Afghanistan, the intelligence agencies have sent out alerts to them to be ready to be transported back to the country. Unlike the United States Central Intelligence Agency which gathered the sense that Taliban will take months to capture Kabul, India's Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) was fully aware that "it was just a matter of days".

A bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and M.R. Shah asked Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati whether the other directions as given by the court in the order have been complied with. As Bhati requested some time to seek instructions in the matter, the court, while granting the extension, also asked the ASG to place on record an affidavit mentioning steps taken in connection with other guidelines in the judgment within two weeks.

The Centre had informed the top court that to dispel any wrong narrative spread, it will constitute "a committee of experts in the field which will go into all aspects of the issue". A bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana asked the Centre to furnish a detailed affidavit with the information whether Pegasus was used or not. The Chief Justice said, "We are not saying anything against the government. That is not the issue."

On August 12, India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-F10 (GSLV-F10) carrying the country's first Geo-Imaging Satellite (GISAT-1) failed to complete its mission as its cryogenic engine did not ignite.
Sushmita Deb meets Abhishek Banerjee, may join Trinamool
