Blast in school triggers fresh tension along Assam-Mizoram border

Police said that the explosion damaged the floor and wall of the Sahebmara Punjee Lower Primary school in Gutguti area in Hailakandi district adjoining Kolasib district of Mizoram. The government run school is located in the remote bordering area and has been shut due to Covid-19 restrictions. As the blast took place on Friday midnight no one was hurt in the detonation.
Olympians, corona warriors to be part of Independence Day celebration at Red Fort

The Ministry of Defence said Olympians, including Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, have been invited at the flag hoisting ceremony. "Nearly 240 Olympians, support staff, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Sports Federation officials have also been invited to grace the 'Gyan Path' in front of the ramparts of the Red Fort," the Ministry added.
'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', PM to lead from Red Fort on Sunday

The Prime Minister has launched 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' from Sabarmati Ashram at Ahmedabad in Gujarat in March 2021 to celebrate 75 years of India's Independence. The celebrations will continue till August 15, 2023. Upon the arrival of the Prime Minister at the Red Fort, he will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State (Defence) Ajay Bhatt and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar.
Terror module busted in Jammu, 4 JeM terrorists arrested

Police said JeM terrorists and their associates have been arrested by Jammu Police in a drive to root out presence of terrorists in Jammu. "They were planning collection of arms dropped by drones and supply to active terrorists of Jaish-e- Mohammed in Kashmir valley; planting a vehicle based IED in Jammu before 15th August and reconnaissance of important targets in other parts of the country," police said.

Twitter unlocks account of Congress, Rahul Gandhi

After the party's account was unlocked, the Congress said: "Satyamev Jayate." According to sources, Twitter has unlocked the accounts but have withheld the old tweets. The micro-blogging platform had blocked the accounts for violating policies. The Congress has alleged that it was being done on the behest of the government. Gandhi said that he has 19-20 million followers and they have been denied the right to an opinion.
Delhi likely to see rise in temperature till Aug 18

Delhi may find some relief from the scorching heat and humidity on August 19 as the Met Department has predicted possible light rain with thunderstorm. The minimum temperature in most parts of the national capital is likely to be 26 degrees Celsius.
India logs 38,667 new Covid cases, 478 deaths

Less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 48 consecutive days, as per the Covid bulletin released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The active caseload registered a growth of 2,446 on Saturday and the total caseload climbed to 3,87,673. The active caseloads constitute 1.21 per cent of total cases, as per the bulletin released.
