Kerala records 17,481 new Covid cases, TPR rises to 12%

According to a statement issued by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Malappuram district had the highest daily number of cases, at 2,318, followed by Ernakulam with 2,270, Kozhikode with 2,151, Trissur at 1983, and the state capital district had 1,166. There were 105 fresh deaths, taking the total death tally to 15,617.

Equating Mamata Banerjee's announcement with Muslim League's 'Direct Action Day', in a tweet, BJP Rajya Sabha member Swapan Dasgupta said, "Interesting, Mamata Banerjee has declared August 16 as 'Khela Hobe Diwas'. It is the day the Muslim League launched its Direct Action Day and began the 'Great Calcutta Killings' in 1946. In today's West Bengal, 'Khela Hobe' has come to symbolise a wave of terror attacks on opponents."

Delhi police beef up security at Jantar Mantar ahead of farmers' protest

The farmers have been protesting against three Union farm laws, for the last eight months at the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders of Delhi. They are demanding the repeal of the farm laws enacted in September 2020 and have said they will hold a 'Kisan Parliament' at Jantar Mantar from July 22. The farmers organisations leading the protests at the Singhu border have decided that 200 protesting farmers will assemble at Jantar Mantar every day from Thursday.
India successfully flight-tests man-portable anti-tank guided missile

The step is seen as a major boost to 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat' (Self Reliant India) and strengthening the Indian Army. The missile was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missile was launched from a man-portable launcher integrated with thermal site and the target was mimicking a tank.

India successfully flight-tests new generation Akash Missile

The flight trial was conducted at around 12.45 p.m. from a land-based platform with all weapon system elements such as multi-function radar, command, control and communication system, and launcher participating in deployment configuration. The missile system has been developed by Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, in collaboration with other Defence Research & Development Organisation laboratories.
Govt's wrong decisions during Covid 2.0 killed 50L people: Rahul

Government of India's wrong decisions during Covid second wave killed 50 lakh of our sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers," the Congress leader said in a tweet, attaching a report of the Washington-based think tank, Centre for Global Development, which claimed that nearly 50 lakh (4.9 million) people might have died in India due to Covid-19 between January 2020 and June 2021.
Delhi reports 62 new Covid cases, 4 deaths

The daily Covid positivity rate was at 0.9 per cent, according to the Delhi government's health bulletin. There was marginal increase in both daily number of cases and positivity rate in comparison to Tuesday, when 44 cases and a 0.7 per cent positivity rate were reported. Meanwhile, 61 people more recovered from the disease, taking the national capital's total number of recoveries to 14,10,066.
Mamata calls for national front to defeat BJP at Centre

Reaching out to the senior opposition leaders of the country, Banerjee said, "We need to build a front and fight for a common cause. So please go and convince your leaders so that we can come together, leaving our narrow self-interests and differences behind, and fight unitedly against the BJP, as only then we can only save this country."
