Punjab: BJP leaders taken hostage by protesting farmers rescued after 12-hour ordeal

Rescued leaders blamed the farmers for unlawful act in the pretext of protesting against the three farm laws enacted by the Central government. They blamed the state Congress government for supporting the farmers. The incident occurred in Rajpura town, some 40 km from the state capital, where state general secretary Bhupesh Aggarwal was taken hostage along with others in a house on Sunday evening.
Struck by lightning: 11 Jaipur tourists die in Amer watch tower

The incident is from Sunday when these tourists were out enjoy a pleasant evening -- some were busy taking selfies while others chatting when they were struck down. Around twenty-seven people were reported to have been on the watch tower and the fort wall when the incident happened. Jaipur police Commissioner Anand Shrivastav confirmed the incident. "A total of 11 people have died as lightning struck them while 8 people have been injured," Shrivastav said.
India reports over 37K new Covid cases, recoveries cross 3 crore-mark

This is the 34th consecutive day when India reported less than one lakh new coronavirus cases. The active cases have now come down below 5 lakh. The country has 4,50,899 active cases presently and has witnessed a total of 4,08,764 deaths so far. According to the Union Health Ministry, a total of 39,649 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 3,00,14,713 till date.
38 killed in lightning strike in UP, Yogi orders relief

At least 38 people were killed in eleven districts of Uttar Pradesh, after being struck by lightning, thunder and rain. The deaths occured on Sunday evening. Fourteen people died in Prayagraj, five in Kanpur Dehat, three each in Firozabad and Kaushambhi and two each in Unnao and Chitrakoot after lightning struck them.

New Covid cases dip below 2,000 in Karnataka

Only 1,978 positive cases were registered on Saturday, taking the state's Covid tally to 28,71,298, including 36,737 active cases, while recoveries rose to 27,98,703, with 2,326 patients discharged during the day," said the bulletin. As epi-centre of the pandemic in the state, Bengaluru, however, reported only 433 fresh cases on Saturday.

West Bengal govt to sell off DPL land to clear debts

"Though it is not yet clear which portion of the land would be sold or leased off, the process could start with 154 acres spread in three parcels in Durgapur. Two officers of the power department went to Durgapur on Wednesday and visited all three land parcels which could be put up for monetisation in the first phase," said a senior official of the state finance department.
