Birlas vs Lodhas: SC declines to interfere in HC order in H.V. Lodha case

A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Hrishikesh Roy refused to hear an appeal by Arvind Kumar Newar against the high court order and sent the case back to the high court with instructions to dispose of the pending pleas expeditiously by March 31 next year. Newar's plea argued that the high court ignored over 2.37 lakh votes cast against the reappointment of Lodha and decided the case in his favour.
China back at disrupting Indian celebration of Dalai Lama birthday in Ladakh

"It is a regular affair every year. The Chinese protest as we celebrate Dalai Lama's birthday," said a senior government officer adding that the protest happened on July 6. "They waved their flags in protest when villagers on Indian side were celebrating the birthday," said the officer adding that they came in five vehicles and raised banners and flags. It was for the first time, Modi officially said he spoke with the Dalai Lama.
Delhi reports 45 new Covid cases, 3 deaths

The daily Covid positivity rate was at 0.8 per cent, according to the Delhi government's health bulletin. At the same time, 92 people more recovered from the disease, taking the national capital's total number of recoveries to 14, 09,417. With the latest deaths reported on Monday, Delhi's Covid toll has risen to 25,018. The number of active cases stood at 693, of which 244 were in home isolation.

SC seeks Centre, AG's response on plea challenging sedition law

A bench of Justices U.U. Lalit and Ajay Rastogi was hearing a writ petition filed by two journalists, one each from Manipur and Chhattisgarh. It had issued notice to the Attorney General on the petition on April 30. AG K.K. Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, urged the top court to grant two weeks to file their responses. The bench granted them the time and adjourned the matter for further hearing on July 27.
