PM Modi's '9 pm - 9 Minutes' tweet most retweeted post by any Indian politician in 2020

PM Narendra Modi's April 5 tweet has become the most retweeted one in Indian politics in 2020, Twitter India revealed in its "Golden Tweets of 2020" blog on Tuesday. The tweet was about lighting lamps of hope and good health during the COVID-19.

The Twitter post, which was made on April 5 at 9.34 pm, had a collage of four photos where Modi was seen lighting Diyas. The tweet has received over 1,18,000 retweets and 5,13,000 likes.

PM Modi in his '9 PM-9 Minutes' public address on April 3 urged fellow Indians to stay indoors. He asked the public to switch off the lights at home and instead light diyas, candles for 9 minutes from 9 pm on April 5. 

“During his ‘9 PM-9 Mins’ public address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested people of India to light lamps from the safety of their homes as a symbolic gesture of solidarity towards one other. This Tweet became the most Retweeted Tweet by a politician,” Twitter said.

Twitter gave a round-up of all the events in its “#ThisHappened2020” series.  The year 2020 was a unique year for everyone, which means conversation on Twitter was unique too, the microblogging site said. 

"As the world grappled with a global pandemic, Indians took to Twitter to stay informed, connected and entertained while talking about their passions, re-discovering interests and having diverse conversations," Twitter India said.
