Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the world's largest NGO, for its consistent dedication to "man making and contributing to the nation."
The RSS is the ideological support system of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Delivering his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, Modi owes a debt of gratitude to the organization's volunteers for their several decades of service to the nation.
Having been a former full-time RSS volunteer himself, the Prime Minister lauded the century-old organization, which is completing its 100th year, terming its history as rich with the ideals of Seva, Samarpan, Sangathan, and Anushasan — or Service, Sacrifice, Organisation First, and Discipline.
He also recognized the broad-based influence of the RSS via its vast network of subsidiary groups operating in diverse fields. Modi observed that during the last century, the organisation has served with commitment and will keep motivating coming generations.
