Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday shot back sharply to Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir's recent Mercedes comment, calling it rather a "confession" than "troll material."
Commenting on Munir's strange comparison where he equated India to be like a "shining Mercedes" and Pakistan like a "dump truck," Singh said the world's opinion was one thing—and that was unmistakable—India today is a "Ferrari-like economy," Pakistan still remains in a state of "dumper state."
"I am not saying. Pakistan's economy is like a dump truck full of debris. Now you people know the answer to this. Now, Asim Munir was trolled a lot for this statement both inside Pakistan and all over the world. Everyone said that if two countries got independence at the same time and one country built a Ferrari-like economy through hard work, right policies and foresight and the other is still in a dumper state, then it is their own failure," Rajnath Singh said at Economic Times World Leaders Forum 2025.
"I consider this statement of Asim Munir as a confession. I do not consider his statement as mere troll material... If we do not pay attention to the historical indication behind this serious warning, then it can become a matter of concern for us. And yes, if we pay attention to this and prepare for it, then India is capable of giving a befitting reply to such warnings," he added.
Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir's recent "Mercedes" comment has become the latest of a string of incendiary remarks against India. In his analogy, Munir compared the two countries and said one could "imagine" what would happen if they came into contact.
"India is a glittering Mercedes, but we are a dumper truck with stones; imagine what happens when the two crash into each other," he had said.
Only recently this month, Munir raised a storm with an inflammatory warning to New Delhi, threatening that Islamabad would "bring down half the world" if confronted with an existential threat from India. New Delhi rejected the remarks summarily, terming them another instance of Pakistan's "nuclear sabre-rattling," and noted that it would never yield to nuclear blackmail.
At the heart of Munir's provocative comments was the "crude analogy" wherein he described India as a "shining Mercedes" and Pakistan as a "dump truck full of gravel." The message was that even in a crash, India would suffer serious damage. The analogy, however, was soon ridiculed on the internet, where social network users taunted it as a candid acknowledgement of Pakistan's weak economic and military position versus India.
