After Supreme Court rebuke, Amit Malviya mocks Rahul Gandhi with 'China guru' jibe

A Bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Joymalya Bagchi on Monday reprimanded Gandhi for his assertion that more than 2,000 sq km of Indian land had been taken over by China.

Following the Supreme Court’s sharp observations on Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the Indian Army and Chinese incursion, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya launched a scathing attack on the Congress MP, calling him “China Guru” and accusing him of repeatedly making “irresponsible statements” that undermine India’s national security.

A Bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Joymalya Bagchi on Monday reprimanded Gandhi for his assertion that more than 2,000 sq km of Indian land had been taken over by China.

"Had you been a real Indian, you would not have uttered all this," said the court. But it also suspended the current defamation case against Gandhi in connection with the statement.

Gandhi had made the sensational allegation during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he purportedly stated, "Chinese troops are thrashing Indian Army soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh," when talking about the December 9, 2022, clash along the Tawang sector.

Malviya, citing the top court, stated, "The Supreme Court has again rebuked 'China Guru' Rahul Gandhi for his irresponsible remarks regarding India's national security and territorial integrity."

“Imagine, a Leader of the Opposition being repeatedly rebuked for speaking so recklessly,” Malviya added in a post on X.

He further criticised Gandhi for his recent social media remarks, including one where he described India’s economy as “dead.”

Malviya said Gandhi’s comment amounted to “implicitly admitting that Russia, a long-standing ally, is struggling, while bizarrely endorsing a hostile state like Pakistan as having a robust economy.”

He also termed the LoP's comments a "diplomatic disaster on several fronts."

During court, the Bench interrogated senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Gandhi: "How do you know that 2,000 square kilometres of Indian territory were under the control of the Chinese? Were you present? Do you possess any credible material?"

It also asked, "Why don't you comment on this in Parliament? Why do you need to comment on this in social media statements?"

Malviya highlighted the working comment of the apex court — "If you were a true Indian, you would not say all this" — and challenged Gandhi's intentions, saying, "Does anyone still doubt who Rahul Gandhi is talking on behalf of?"
