The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has been completed, which led to the release of the final roll, which now has about 7.42 crore voters.
The exercise of revision, carried out between June 24 and September 30, 2025, first entailed the deletion of 65 lakh names from the draft rolls that had registered a total of 7.89 crore electors as on June 24, 2025.
As per the draft list published on August 1, 2025, the total number of voters was 7.24 crore. In this phase, 21.53 lakh new voters were enrolled through applications in Form-6 and 3.66 lakh ineligible voters were dropped. The publication of the final roll on September 30 now has 7.42 crore electors.
This massive exercise was made a success through the genuine efforts of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bihar, District Election Officers (DEOs) of all 38 districts, 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 2,976 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), approximately 1 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs), lakhs of volunteers, and the active participation of all 12 major Political Parties, including their district presidents and more than 1.6 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) who were appointed by them," the ECI said in its press release.
The Commission also added that any such eligible person who wants to be included in the electoral roll can apply ten days prior to the date of last filing of nominations for elections.
Appeals against the order on electoral rolls can be made under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, initially before the District Magistrate and then to the CEO.
The ECI also recognized the media for its indispensable contribution in sensitizing and facilitating transparency throughout the revision process.
