Election rules permit persons and political parties to raise objections to names they feel ought not be included in draft rolls. Similarly, persons who feel they are eligible but have been left out can apply to have their names inserted.

The draft electoral rolls were published on 1st August 2025, and will stay open for "claims and objections" by voters and political parties until 1st September 2025.

The current draft list has 7.24 crore names, down from 65 lakh compared to the earlier voter list published prior to the start of the SIR process. According to the SIR instruction made on June 24, all voters enrolled since 2003 must provide evidence for the date and/or place of birth, and for those born after July 1, 1987, supporting documents for their parents' birth details, thus claiming citizenship.

The last electoral roll of Bihar, to be used in the forthcoming November polls, will be released on September 30, 2025.
