Senior BJP Leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra Dies

Born in 1931 in Lahore, Malhotra had a long and illustrious political career. He was a five-time Member of Parliament (MP) and a two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Delhi.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra passed away on Tuesday morning at AIIMS Delhi at the age of 93, the hospital confirmed.

Born in 1931 in Lahore, Malhotra had a long and illustrious political career. He was a five-time Member of Parliament (MP) and a two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Delhi.

He also occupied important party roles, such as president of the Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh for the period from 1972 to 1975 and president of the BJP Delhi Pradesh for two times, for the period from 1977 to 1980 and for the period from 1980 to 1984.

AIIMS released a statement stating, "Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji, 93-year-old senior BJP leader, was hospitalized in AIIMS New Delhi, where he succumbed early morning of 30th September 2025."

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva also tweeted condolences, pointing to Malhotra's long-time impact on the party.

It is with great sorrow that we make the announcement of the untimely death of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and first Delhi BJP president, Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra, this morning. He was 94 years old," Sachdeva said in a statement.

He further added, "Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra's life was a picture of simplicity and commitment towards public service. He labored hard to propagate the RSS ideology in Delhi right from the Jan Sangh days. His life has always inspired and will go on inspiring all BJP workers."

Delhi BJP remembered Malhotra's decades-long political career together with other leaders like Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana, giving him credit for holding the party's stronghold in the city for decades.

One of this most noteworthy electoral successes was winning a landslide victory against former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the 1999 general elections. During a 45-year-long political life, he remained a five-time MP and two-time MLA from Delhi, and one of the BJP's senior-most leaders in the capital.

Significantly, Malhotra was the only winning BJP candidate in Delhi during the 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
