CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as India's 15th vice-president on Friday at a formal ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of senior political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Former vice-presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar, Venkaiah Naidu, and Hamid Ansari were also present for the ceremony.
Radhakrishnan, who was the NDA candidate, won the vice-presidency on Tuesday with 452 votes. His rival, former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, who was the opposition candidate, got 300 votes.
September 12 was reportedly chosen for taking the oath since it was seen as an "auspicious" day by the astrologers.
