Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday stated that 21st-century India is moving towards becoming a viksit (developed) nation while securing the interests of each section of society—from members of parliament to the poor.
He made the statement while dedicating 184 newly constructed Type-VII multi-storey apartments for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi.
Speaking at the meeting, PM Modi stated, "The 21st century India is as much impatient to be 'viksit' as it is sensitive. Today, the nation constructs Kartavya Path and Kartavya Bhavan, besides exercising its responsibility of providing piped water to millions of citizens."
He further added, "Today, when the nation constructs new homes for its MPs, it is also doing a 'grah pravesh' ceremony for the poor under PM Awas Yojana. When the nation is constructing new homes for MPs, it is also building hundreds of new medical colleges. All these advantages are reaching all classes and all communities."
Praising the environmentally friendly approach behind the new complex, Prime Minister attributed it to the "pro-environment and pro-future safe initiatives" of the government and stated that the country is "continuously advancing" its sustainable development commitment.
The flats, as per the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), have "environmentally sustainable" design elements aimed at facilitating energy efficiency, renewable energy production, and efficient waste management. Constructed through the use of green technology, the project complies with the GRIHA 3-star rating parameters and follows the National Building Code (NBC) 2016.
PM Modi also invited members of parliament from all over India to avail of the complex as a centre of cultural exchange. "Today, I would like to request you all to organize occasional celebrations of regional festivals of different regions of the country, as the MPs from all over India would be staying in this complex. You can invite people from your region here and have these festivals and at the same time teach one another different languages and dialects," he said.
Emphasizing the need for cleanliness, the Prime Minister suggested healthy competition between MP housing colonies. "I hope that we shall all work in coordination as a team, and our efforts shall become a model for the country. I would also like the ministry and your housing committee to consider putting clean competitions among the various MP housing complexes, two or three times a year. Then there could be an announcement made which block was considered the cleanest. After one year, we could also make the decision and announcement as to which is the best and which is the worst," he proposed.
The PMO added that the project had been undertaken to cater to the lack of proper accommodation for MPs, with minimal land resources available as a reason for concentrated operations on vertical construction to maximise space and reduce maintenance expenses.
The flats are about 5,000 square feet of carpet area each and serve both residential and official purposes. The apartments have five rooms, two guest rooms, two servant rooms, and office spaces separately.
Looking back at his tour of the flats, PM Modi stated, "When I first went to visit these flats. they took me on a tour, and I was surprised because they are spacious enough. I don't think you will be able to occupy all the rooms. I hope that you put them to good use and your professional as well as personal life blooms here."
